My Story
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist. I have worked with all populations from different socioeconomic backgrounds. Specifically, I have had direct experience with marital counseling, traditional counseling, alcohol and drug counseling, school-based counseling, and behavioral health utilization review.
I was profoundly broken at the age of 5 when I first was sexually abused by my stepfather. In addition to being sexually abused, I grew up witnessing my brother being brutally beaten on a regular basis, had enormous shame due to being told I was conceived after my mother was raped and I should have been aborted, and experienced other forms of abuse. I was severely depressed most of my childhood and early adulthood.
My mother and stepfather were in the military, and we moved around frequently which wasn’t a stable environment to form any type of support system. We had relatives in Pennsylvania, but none of the abuse was disclosed to our extended family. I was pulled out of school frequently, often not completing a whole year at one school. I attended four different high schools and barely graduated. I left home at the age of 17 due to ongoing psychological distress.
My healing path started when I was 22 years old after I began receiving mental health counseling. Through extensive inner work over the last 30 years, much of my trauma is truly healed. I have whole heartedly forgiven those who have hurt me and do not consider myself a victim. I am happy to say that I not only overcame my childhood wounds, but I am genuinely at peace and have love in my heart. Because of my past, I have a passion for wanting to help others who are struggling with their own inner wounds. That is what lead me to obtaining a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.
